OPEN HOUSE WORLDWIDE
Open House Slovenia is part of the international Open House Worldwide network that joins 12 cities in 9 countries (London, New York, Dublin, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Melbourne, Galway, Barcelona, Chicago, Rome, Helsinki, and Slovenia).
THE BEGINING
The Open House initiative began in London 20 years ago. This year’s Open house London attracted over 250 000 visitors who visited more than 700 buildings. The event has grown into Open City initiative that offers architectural events throughout the whole year.
OPEN HOUSES IN SLOVENIA FOR THE THIRD TIME
In 2012, Open House Slovenia was organized for the third year. In first jear 2010 45 buildings were opened, attracting around 400 visitors. In 2011 we opened 89 buildings and organised 15 accompanying events all over the country, attracting more than 2200 visitors. In six months there were more than 13.500 vistis on the web page. Monthly there are still 1000 visits on the page.
The emphasis of the event is showcasing high quality contemporary Slovenian architecture, innovative solutions, adaptation to the environment, flexibility of the building, and sustainable construction. Various types of buildings, such as educational, cultural, business, sports, tourism, private health facilities and open space are on display.
OUTSTANDING SLOVENIAN ARCHITECTURE
The aim of the Open House Slovenia initiative is to open outstanding buildings and organise accompanying events in every region of Slovenia. Open House initiative promotes effective dialogue between professionals, industry, politics, economy and the general public - including adolescents, who represent the future customers.
GUIDED TOURS
Buildings are open according to the schedule displayed on this website. At each of the buildings there is an organised tour, guided by an architect or the building owners or users. Guided tours are in Slovenian language. All of the events are free. For private houses, visits need to be pre-booked via the website. Restrictions also apply for visits to the National Assembly of Slovenia and Ljubljana, Plecnik's house.
